Vermont Lanai
Vermont Lanai is a renovation and addition that reorients the home's indoor spaces to embrace views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. Like its Hawaiian namesake, Vermont Lanai uses architectural elements to create a series of layered spaces that blur the distinction between inside and out. The glass walls pull the landscape in while inviting inhabitants out, creating outdoor living spaces that feel like an extension of the home.
The design is composed of two glass boxes connected by a covered porch and roof deck. The larger of the two glass boxes houses the kitchen/dining space. A large, marble kitchen island is surrounded by custom cabinetry, and provides a space for the kitchen sink to face across the dining area and out to the views beyond. The dining space flows from the kitchen area and is surrounded on three sides by glass, creating an indoor/outdoor feel. The primary suite makes up the second glass box. Curved walls and a custom, built-in bed facing out to the view create a space that feels both private and expansive. The covered porch not only connects the interior spaces to one another but also provides seasonal shading for the large windows underneath. The upper porch has access points to three bedrooms and creates a quiet space for the family to reflect and enjoy their surroundings. A patio and pool area further extend the new design into the landscape and knit the home into the surrounding landscape.
