Our Process
Building your dream project can be both thrilling and overwhelming. The team at Sidehill Design Studio works with you every step of the way - from initial brainstorming to the final stages of construction. Our goal is to bring your vision to life and help you enjoy the process along the way.
This page outlines the basic steps we follow for each project in our office: concept, design, construction, and completion.
Concept Design
This is the time to throw out ideas, dream big, and let us worry about how to make it all come together. It is our opportunity to get to know you. We will learn what you do (and don’t) like, what your dreams are for your project, and how you will use your new space.
At this stage, we also like to start discussions about what the larger building team might look like for your project. The best buildings come from a strong and collaborative team of designers, builders, engineers, and contractors. We can help you pull that team together to help you keep your project, and your schedule, on track.
Design Development
In the design phase Sidehill will take what we have learned in our initial conversations and put together a draft design for you to review. We use 3-dimensional models at this stage of design, which help you to fully understand the spaces, layout, circulation, lighting, and views.
The initial design will be changed and updated based on feedback and follow up discussions, often going through multiple rounds as we refine elements of the design, siting, program, and plan. Our team will work with you at this stage to begin to develop key interior design elements including kitchen layout, custom cabinetry, fixtures, lighting, and material choices.
Construction
The team at Sidehill works closely with the builders, craftspeople, and contractors who bring our designs to life. We make regular site visits throughout construction for all of our projects. During this phase we are able to refine interior details and work closely with the builder to bring your vision to life. Working collaboratively across professions we are able to create interesting new details, catch issues before they arise, and problem solve quickly and constructively when faced with unexpected twists and turns.
Completion
After the final walkthrough you finally get your new space to enjoy! While we will not be on site anymore, we are always available for questions or advice, whether you have been in your new space for two days, or two years!
