Sidehill Design was founded on the idea that buildings can be beautiful, sustainable, and fun. Inspired by the barns that define the Vermont landscape, Sidehill creates unique buildings with a sense of place and beauty that will stand the test of time.
Sidehill was launched by architect Jeff McBride in 2021. Projects include both private homes and community buildings. Jeff works closely with each client throughout the entire building process - from initial design through the end of construction.
Each project begins with concept designs and progresses through multiple iterations to develop and refine the clients’ vision. Sidehill helps clients find the right builder and works closely with them throughout the building process. This includes coordination and collaboration with builders, craftspeople, consultants, and regulatory officials.
Sidehill’s design work includes all aspects of a building project, including site selection, building detailing, interior finishes, cabinetry, lighting, and hardware selection. Sidehill creates sustainable buildings with robust passive design, strong renewable energy systems, and durable detailing.
Jeff McBride AIA, Principal
Jeff has been practicing architecture for over 20 years. He received a Master’s in Architecture from Yale University, but his career path truly started as an undergraduate in Art History 101 at Williams College. Prior to starting Sidehill Design in 2021, Jeff worked for top architecture firms in Vermont, Boston, and Washington, DC, studied drawing in Rome, and taught undergraduates at the Boston Architectural College.
Jeff is a registered architect, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and a LEED accredited professional in green building and design. His past work has won numerous awards and been featured in the New York Times, Hamptons Cottage and Garden, and several books. Jeff currently serves on the board of the Vermont chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
Jeff lives in Vermont with his wife, two children, and a giant dog named Hopscotch.
